For my Pall-bearers - Poetry by A. Ayyappan (as translated by Sri Koyamparambath Satchidanandan)

For my Pall-bearers - Poetry by A. Ayyappan (as translated by Sri Koyamparambath Satchidanandan)

For my Pall-bearers

I have to share a secret

which is not in my will

with those who bear my coffin.

There will be a flower

in place of my heart:

a gift from the woman

who taught me love’s religion

in my days of curiosity.

Pluck that flower from my heart

before I am buried .

Cover my face with its petals.

One petal  ,too, for my palm

with its vanished lines.

Through that flower

I long to come back.

I had no time to tell you this truth

the moment before I died ;

it flowed off into death

with the cold  water you offered me.

Or else,

just leave the coffin open,

now that I have befriended the dead.

This is Wisdom - Poetry by A. Ayyappan (as translated by Sri Koyamparambath Satchidanandan)

This is Wisdom

This is Wisdom.

This is the salt that

flavours everything

This is the red bloom

of the dark plant,

the open eye

the enemy fears ,

not the Buddha’s

half-closed one

This is the nest of Desire,

the West of home.

This is the home with the mother,

the friend of the  herb.

This is the dried blood

of the ancestor

still left on the sacrificial stone.

This is Wisdom.

The Taste of Earth - Poetry by A. Ayyappan (as translated by Sri Koyamparambath Satchidanandan)

The Taste of Earth - Poetry by A. Ayyappan (as translated by Sri Koyamparambath Satchidanandan)
The Taste of Earth

I am the desert dreaming of oases.

a dream for those who condemn

my scorching sands.

When the forests bloom

and rain arrives on the green earth,

when snow falls on the mountains,

I remain the burning earth.

I am the fever of the sun

not cooled by moonlight.

Remembering  the  rain,

I become the butcher’s laughter.

I too love flowers,

But not the  rain.

Its chill is a curse;

it’ll put out my fire.

Those who have travelled

from  the Sahara to the sea

know the taste of my heat.

Poetry - STAMMER by K. Satchidanandan

Poetry - STAMMER by K. Satchidanandan

Stammer is no handicap:
it is a mode of speech.

Stammer is the silence that falls
between the word and its meaning,
just as lameness is the silence
that falls between the word and the deed.

Did stammer precede language
or succeed it?
Is it only a dialect
or a language itself?-these questions
make the linguists stammer.

Each time we stammer,
we are offering a sacrifice
to the God of Meanings.

When a whole people stammer
stammer becomes their mothertongue
as it is with us now.

God too must have stammered
when He created Man.
That is why each word of man
carries different meanings.
That is why everything he utters
from his prayers to his commands
stammers,
like poetry.

Poetry - S E L F ( Swam) / K. Satchidanandan

S E L F ( Swam) / K. Satchidanandan

My mother didn’t believe
when, in 1945 I appeared to her
in a dream and told her
I would be born to her the following year.

My father recognized me
As soon as he saw
the mole below my left thumb.
But mother believed to the very end
that someone else had been born to her
masquerading as me.

Father and I pleaded with her;
but dreams are not reliable witnesses.
She went on waiting for that
promised son till she died

Only when she was reborn as my daughter
did she admit it had really been me.

But by then I had begun to doubt
it was someone else’s heart
that was beating within my body.

One day I will retrieve my heart;
my language too.

Team 1 Talent Share Message to Members : Theme for June 2010

Dear Talent Share Participating members and Fans,

1. I sincerely thank each and every participating member of Talent Share Fan page and blog. May be due to school holidays in India and school ending season and exams before summer holidays, the responses received to the May 2010 themes have been limited.

With the importance of the themes mentioned for May and it’s relevance to children, I am continuing them for June 2010 with additions.

Flowers and vegetables

You may draw different types of flowers and vegetables you get to see in your day to day life. If possible, try to add their botanical name to add interest and knowledge to the viewers.

Life in a Zoo

You can draw and present animals, birds and other activities you watch in a zoo. This is also an opportunity to visit a zoon nearby your home and present what you see there either as a drawing, coloring, cartoon etc.

Traffic Awareness

This is an important theme presented for the month of May and I am continuing for June as well. As many of you may be aware by now, the directorate of traffic and patrol (general command of Abu Dhabi police -UAE) and SAAED company is conducting one of the largest international ART competition. The competition is for traffic regulation under the banner of (traffic safety). The rules and regulations are detailed in the following link.

http://www.saaed.ae/Section.aspx?name=cmp_165

I hope, Talent Share participating members from worldwide are inspired by the above item to submit their creative contribution directly at the link and address mentioned in the above link. At the same time, I am requesting you to present a copy of it so that, it inspires more members to participate. I am encouraging a multiple presentation policy because; I believe that a healthy competition always brings out the best.

2. In addition, from this month, I will be including a weekly or bi-weekly theme for presentation of photographs clicked by you at Passionate Photographers group.

Theme for this week is : Sunrise

Sincerely looking forward to your photo presentations, with location details and time you clicked at Passionate Photographers group before 08 June 2010:

Master - Joshua Godfrey
Winner of Reflections painting competition held at ISCC Abu Dhabi on 14.05.2010
Group 3 - Age 7 - 10 yrs.

Please join me in congratulating our participating member Master Joshua Godfrey for his recent achievement.

Talking about Joshua, I remember the first time he participated in Talent Share initiatives in November 2008. It was for the first online competition conducted by Talent Share he submitted one of his drawings. When I met him after, with his father, to present a small gift, which was given that time to all the participating children, he was hiding behind him. Introducing him to me, his father Godfrey told me, he is the only one at their home with a different talent as he, his wife Jasmine and Joshua’s elder brother Jaison are all musically oriented and regularly present programmes and get gifts and certificates. Joshua was that time the one who was left alone without any representation to his credit at their medal collections.

I periodically talked to him, his arts teacher and his parents and encouraged him to participate and present often. His regular participation, his parents effort to put him on drawing classes even while on holidays at Kerala, and the encouragement of his own arts and crafts teacher Mr. Rajkumar at Our Own English High School Abu Dhabi changed the situation at the display at his home.

He is now a regular winner wherever and whenever he participates. I am very happy for you Joshua, God bless you and your talent to grow to greater heights.
